Presented by Bernice Ledbetter, Dean of Students and Alumni Affairs | Pepperdine University, Center for Women in Leadership
This session will focus on how to use passion for change to create strategic impact. Often times our deep sense of purpose for positive and productive change can seem disconnected from organizational strategy. In this session insights on leading purposeful change strategically will be presented; participants will develop a plan for creating strategic impact through peer to peer interaction and coaching.
9:00am – 10:30am General Session with Linda A. Hill, Ph.D.
Developing Talent That Can Lead Innovation and Digital Transformation
Linda A. Hill is Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, Bestselling Author of Collective Genius: The Art and Practice of Leading Innovation
If you want to build organizations that can execute and innovate, it is time we refocus our leadership development efforts. Based on her research of innovative organizations in general, and of those undergoing digital transformation in particular, Professor Linda Hill, will discuss how the second imperative of leadership—managing your network—is too often neglected at an organization’s peril. Hill will provide examples of what companies are doing to develop leaders who are both value creators and game changers because they know how to build ecosystems of partners inside and outside the organization required to implement innovative solutions.

The CHRO is responsible for all of the organization’s talent, and proactive planning can make it easier for them to manage workforce concerns. They also need to be prepared to ask for investments in technology. CFOs know how to manage budgets, but they may not have experience allocating HR resources beyond hiring. This session will discuss the integrated approach needed to translate HR’s strategy to internal and external stakeholders through people and change management, while ensuring the CFO will allocate the appropriate financial capital and resources necessary to execute.

Disrupting the HR Model: What Happens When You Blow Up the Old Way?
Presented by Ramona Agrela, Associate Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Executive | University of California, Irvine
The University of California, Irvine (UCI) HR department has undertaken a significant transformation by unifying disparate HR units and elevating the visibility and leadership of HR to the chancellor level to provide more disciplined, strategic services. These changes respect the differences across three unique business enterprises — medical center, health affairs and campus — and includes a think tank partnership that works across the three units on initiatives that support the university’s strategic goals, addresses issues, and implements programs and applications that are changing the way UCI staff members work. We’ll share how individual units were reorganized to help solve problems at an enterprise level and the single service center that is the result of centralizing the three HR units to provide more shared, consolidated services.

End the day with a final session designed to maximize your time and learning with other top leadership.
