Keeping it Long Beach Local at #CAHR18

The 2018 California HR Conference is what brings you to the lovely city of Long Beach (have you registered yet?) so while you’re in town, pause to appreciate the rich history of Long Beach and enjoy the city like the locals do with these tips on where to hang out, grab a bite and treat your self.

From Then To Now

Much like many coastal cities in California, Long Beach has a colorful history of transformation and expansion. Economic and railroad booms around the turn of the 19th century spurred the city’s population and square milage growth to over 40 times what is was back then. As modernized as the city is, you can still visit original adobe buildings from the Spanish Land Grant, located in Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos.

Long Beach remains a bustling hub of world trade that hosted four of the Los Angeles Olympic events in 1984, and continues to host a variety of events and festivals such as the Toyota Grand Prix and the third largest Lesbian & Gay Pride Parade and Festival in the United States. Long Beach also hosts a greater number of music and cultural festivals each year than any other part of Souther California.

Fun in the Sun

Long Beach is known for its laid-back style, sprawling beaches, The Queen Mary, and mild year-round climate. Despite being one of the largest cities in California and the U.S., Long Beach preserves a strong local community and boasts bike-friendly streets, yoga in the park, Segway tours on the beach, other waterfront attractions, and farmers markets.

Food, Drinks & Discounts

Speaking of food, Long Beach’s dining scene is a must. Whether you’re a vegan foodie, passionate about ocean sustainability, or looking for top notch burgers & beer, the city has you covered – and your #CAHR18 badge will have your wallet covered with dozens of local discounts. Click here for discount details, maps, and more!

Use your badge to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere on the rooftop at Bo-Beau Kitchen + Roof Tap, which serves quality adult beverages and California-French appetizers and dishes. And hey, want to know a secret? Utopia Restaurant serves some of the “best kept secret” food you’ll find in all of Long Beach.

Have a sweet tooth? At The Pie Bar you’ll find decadently sweet, savory, mini, and full-size pies. We love their creative Cutie Pie In A Jar, and Pie Shots – a.k.a. pie served in a shotglass.

These are just a few of the dozens of eateries, spanning a variety of cuisines and price points, and offering you discounts as a #CAHR18 attendee.

Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

Here at #CAHR18, we know you need your java fix. That’s why we provide coffee onsite Monday through Wednesday, 7am-9am.

But for those with a serious hankering for joe, or if you like your soy latte, no-foam order done juuust right, we recommend stopping by Recreational Coffee, Cabinet, or Cuppa Cuppa – all within 1 mile of the convention center and all highly regarded for their exceptional coffee creations.

Treat Yourself

In the day to day, you already work hard. And we know you’ll be in learning mode for much of #CAHR18. Take some time before or after the conference to treat yourself!

Right across from the convention center you’ll find The Pike Outlets, a convenient place to catch up on back-to-school shopping – or updating your fall wardrobe – thanks to excellent outlet store savings.

If shopping stresses you out, splurge to book a session at one of these local spas after #CAHR18 wraps up on Wednesday. We noticed Oceana Day Spa, Body Philosophy Spa, and The Petite Retreat have high ratings, and aren’t too far out of your way.
